The gelded colt trotted, feeling much better now that the swelling was completly gone and fresh with coolness. The colt had been worked a few other times but now she was going to put training on him before the race two days away. Training him now then working him lightly tomorrow would freshen his chance in the race. he only had one suitor, and taht was her filly, Hear Ye Hear Ye.
His hooves sunk slightly into the freshly worked track. In teh predawn all was quite, and that gave her the best time to make him focus and work. He seemed to like to look around when being worked. He was a real goof off as she saw it. These days she put blinkers on him and made him work. he hadn't liked it but when you did this you could see his true potential.
Taking him to the gate so he had the prep of it aswell she hunched over his back and up his silky neck. She placed her boots harder into the stirups and waited. RING!!!!! the noise awoke some birds in a tree. He bolted forward to begin the mile and a half training. they ate up teh ground in an even 12 clip. coming around teh turn from the shoot she could feel his strides lengthen then change leads. He was a smooth ride that just needed a jockey that would push him.
they ran the backstretch in what she thought was a 11 and change. She bunkered down on top of him as they went for the second and last turn. Rushing around it his leads changed once more and he had a new burst of speed. Coming for home she swung her whip. She never touched him, she just had it there for him to see. He hurridy on like a rabbit running from hounds. They crossed teh line and she began to ease him up. coming down to a canter then trot she cooled him out for another mile at a walk. Passing the clockers stand they hollered down at her. "Maybe you should buy him He ran a mile and a half in 2:19 flat!" that was a fast time. not faster than Heart or Bubba but it was still good. "I don't buy unproductive stock. Sorry fellas!" she called back.
After cooling him out she went and unsaddled him tehn bathed him in the warming spring rays. she smiled and whisteled a little. His ears flipped back a bit to listen. she smiled and patted. him. "Well Casey sure will be surprised to see you race." she told him.
